Wittenberg Alumna Returns To Campus As Executive-In-Residence

Springfield, Ohio – ϲͶעapp's Management Department welcomes Barbara Mulhern Fowler, class of 1975, as its spring semester Executive-In-Residence Jan. 26-28. Fowler will present a WittPath Career Chat, make presentations at organizational behavior and human resource management classes, and give the keynote address at a department colloquium.

Fowler enjoys speaking on a number of topics, including management, leadership and coaching/mentoring. Her presentation, titled "Leadership Lessons Learned the Hard Way," is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Bayley Auditorium in the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center. Although the residency is sponsored by the Management Department, Fowler's visit holds special interest for students in several disciplines, including political science, psychology and communication majors. Everyone is welcomed to attend the colloquium.

As vice president for field training and development for Prudential International Insurance, Fowler is responsible for the training and development programs for life planners, sales managers, agency managers and chief marketing officers in Prudential International Insurance. The focus of her role is to ensure that the company's programs provide the knowledge, attitude, skills and habit training necessary to meet its performance objectives.

Prior to her current position, Fowler served as chief marketing officer in Pramerica, Poland, and Prudential Seguros, Argentina. As a member of the executive team, her responsibilities included achieving company objectives and developing the agency managers' skills in recruiting, developing and retaining sales managers and life planners. In Argentina, Fowler was responsible for the start-up of field operations, mentoring the local executives, and recruiting and training the initial groups of agency managers.

After graduating from Wittenberg, Fowler earned a law degree at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., before earning a master's degree in tax law from New York University. She worked at Prentiss Hall briefly prior to joining Prudential where has remained throughout her career. She was in charge of marketing at Prudential before moving to Prudential International.

The Executive-in-Residence program is an Ameritech-endowed program managed through Wittenberg's innovative Center for Applied Management (WittCAM). Each year, students get firsthand accounts of current business trends and practical career advice from industry leaders.
