Tips for evaluating sources
Is it Scholarly or Popular?

Sociology:
- more than 500 full text journals, including nearly 500 peer-reviewed titles, in all areas of sociology, including social behavior, human tendencies, interaction, relationships, community development, culture and social structure.
Comprehensive Sociology database with full text for more than 860 journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for more than 830 books and monographs, and full text for over 16,800 conference papers.

Multidisciplinary:
Contains research from a variety of disciplines and is a good source of information on current events.
- Full text of newspaper, magazine, and journal articles from the ethnic, minority, and native press
- covers the full spectrum of gender-engaged scholarship inside and outside academia
- provides authoritative historical and current perspectives on the evolution of gender roles as they affect both men and women.
- Great resource for scholarly research in a variety of disciplines. JSTOR may not provide access to the most recent 2 to 5 years of a journal due to publisher restrictions, so be sure to supplement with other sources for current research.
- Contains lots of newspapers, current events, as well as legal and business information.

Or: See the library's list of All Databases.

IV. Locating Journals

At Wittenberg:

*** Search Journals the Library Has to determine whether Wittenberg has a particular periodical in either electronic or print.

Print periodicals at other Ohio academic libraries:

for identifying the location of periodicals.
(Note: Typically OhioLINK libraries do not lend whole volumes of a periodical. You could visit an OhioLINK library to make a copy of an article or fill out Interlibrary Loan form linked below to request a free copy.)
Interlibrary Loan form - Request a free copy of a periodical article that Wittenberg doesn't have access to. We will ask a library that owns it to mail a copy of the pages you need.

Locating journals can be tricky, difficult, and generally exasperating. A librarian will be glad to assist you!

V. People Help - After all, where would we be without one another?
For research help by e-mail, contact Kristen Peters, who is library liaison with the Sociology Department. You could also phone her at 937-327-7533 with a quick question or to set up an appointment for an individual consultation. Or, contact the library Research Help Desk.
