Wittenberg Earns National Distinction for Service

Honored for a Fifth Time

鈥嬧嬃喜释贤蹲pp has been named to the President鈥檚 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This is the fifth time the university has be so honored.

Launched in 2006, the Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. The 2013 Honor Roll recipients were announced at the American Council on Education鈥檚 95th Annual Meeting 鈥淟eading Change,鈥 March 4, in Washington, D.C.

鈥淓ach year when I submit the application, I am humbled by the meaningful ways our students, faculty and staff serve in the local community and beyond,鈥 Wittenberg Director of Community Service Kristen Collier said.

Close to 700 colleges and universities were awarded spots on the honor roll lists based on a series of selection factors, including scope and innovativeness of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses. The Community Service Honor Roll is jointly sponsored by the corporation through its Learn and Serve America program, and the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, USA Freedom Corps, and the President鈥檚 Council on Service and Civic Participation.

The Corporation for National and Community Service is a federal agency that improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering. The organization administers Senior Corps, AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America, a program that supports service-learning in schools, institutions of higher education and community-based organizations.
