Competitive Edge
Wittenberg鈥檚 new gross anatomy lab, designed by Associate Professor of Health and Sport Studies John Thistlethwaite and constructed by the University鈥檚 facilities management and IT teams, will allow for expanded offerings starting this fall. Enrolled students will have the unique experience of dissecting a human cadaver, which will be valuable in a future occupation or professional/graduate program.
Federal Funding Benefits Tutoring Programs
Wittenberg鈥檚 department of education, in partnership with the Springfield City and Northwestern Local school districts, was awarded a federal grant of $412,250 for mathematics and literacy tutoring to boost low-income enrollment through the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
New Academic Programs
To keep up with workforce demands, Wittenberg will offer new programs in nursing education, exercise science, and management, including supply chain management and project management, beginning this fall. In addition, the M.A. in Education and M.A. in Sports Administration (expanded from the M.A. in athletic coaching) will be fully online.
Interim Provost Named
President Frandsen has announced that Brian Yontz, chair and professor of education, will serve as interim provost following current Provost Michelle Mattson鈥檚 move to Carleton College, July 15. Yontz, the 2020 Distinguished Teaching Award recipient, began his new responsibilities on July 1 to allow for a seamless transition and continued forward momentum.
Supporting Students
Supporting students and their mental health is what Director of Student Counseling and Supportive Services Matthew West, LPCC-S does best. West recently took some time to talk about the counseling staff and its services.
