New Wittenberg Arboretum
Wittenberg鈥檚 rolling hills, welcoming hollows, and its vast treasure trove of trees spanning more than 100 acres have always captured the hearts of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends. Now, thanks to the efforts of Matthew Collier, award-winning professor of biology, and Dan McDermitt, director of facilities management, the campus鈥 collection of trees has achieved a new status 鈥 official Level 1 ArbNet Accreditation, which denotes the University as an official arboretum.
Dual Degree Program in Engineering Announced
To meet increasing student interest, Wittenberg is launching a new engineering pathway thanks to a dual-degree partnership with Indiana Institute of Technology (Indiana Tech), located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The new pathway will allow students to receive a B.A. in physics from Wittenberg and a B.S. in engineering from Indiana Tech.
2024 Distinguished Teacher
Celebrating dedication to superior quality teaching, this year鈥檚 top faculty prize, the 2024 Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching, was presented to Amy McGuffey, associate professor of education and department chair. The award was announced by Wittenberg Alumni Association Board President Matt Overturf '11 during the annual Honors Convocation this spring.
New Preferred Partner Program
Committed to providing accessible and affordable educational opportunities for professionals and their families, Wittenberg has launched the Preferred Partner Program. Open to eligible professionals and their dependent children, the program provides tuition discounts and undergraduate scholarships to preferred partners. To kick off the initiative, Clark State College has signed on as the program鈥檚 inaugural member.
Bahamas Field Study
Eleven students, led by biology professors Jim Welch, Kathy Reinsel, and Richard Phillips, spent three weeks at the Gerace Research Centre on San Salvador, the Bahamas 鈥 one of Wittenberg's most popular field study experiences. From snorkeling, stingrays, sharks, shallows, Sand Dollar Reef, and more, the group engaged in practical, hands-on learning that often leads to more extensive collaborative research projects between students and faculty. 2023-2024 Athletics Highlights
The 2023-24 school year was filled with wins and lofty achievement for Wittenberg鈥檚 teams and student-athletes, as evidenced by the Tigers鈥 third-place finish in the . In addition, women鈥檚 volleyball won the NCAC Tournament title, and men鈥檚 volleyball claimed the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) regular season title. Women鈥檚 volleyball and men鈥檚 golf both competed in their respective NCAA Division III Tournaments, and student-athletes representing men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country, women鈥檚 indoor track and field, and men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 outdoor track and field competed in national events.
